Our Mission
We are an accredited 501(c)(3 nonprofit organization established in November 2007 - dedicated to the programmatic support of the Barnwell County Animal Shelter and our rural community. We rely solely on community donations and grants to continue our mission.
Our primary goals are as follows:
To improve health and overall well-being of animals housed at the Shelter.
To improve the physical facility so that more animals can be housed in a clean, safe environment.
To reduce the number of homeless dogs and cats through promotion of Shelter adoptions as well as promotion of spaying and neutering all pets.
In 2023, with the help of Best Friends Animal Society, we implemented a Community Cat TNVR (trap-neuter-vaccinate-return) program. We have a dedicated team of volunteers who handle trapping, transporting and returning animals after they have been evaluated, vaccinated and spayed/neutered by the program veterinarian. Cats and kittens who can be socialized will be eligible for rescue or adoption. Those who are feral will be returned to the trapped location and are fed by community volunteers. Through these efforts, we have been able to process 547 feral cats with an average cost for each cat of $50. Current waiting list for this program is over 800 cats, with an average of 5-10 added each week. We expect our continued efforts to reduce the intake volume but we need your help to reach our goals.
